Our Approach
drkvienna is built around a simple concept: to push beyond your limits you first need to find them. Building on the tried-and-tested philosophy of DRKHORSE Cycling (drklabs.ca), drkvienna uses evidence-informed and psycho-social coaching approaches to help each athlete sharpen their strengths and level up their limiters. We believe that success lies in both the reality of measurable improvements and the experience of becoming a better built cyclist.

Meet the Team
Daniel
Performance Coach
Daniel Smyth combines his passion for critical thinking and data to help cyclists find their limits and go beyond them. As a USA Cycling Licensed Coach and Austrian B-License Fitness Trainer, he has the knowledge to deliver effective training plans, analyse data, and provide feedback and guidance. He is a former elite soccer player who transitioned to cycling after a career-ending injury. Daniel enjoys evolving his training methods to deliver results for athletes of all levels and backgrounds. Whether in the gym, at the testing studio, or on the bike, he strives to create a fun, growth-oriented environment for clients.


Assaf
Co-Founder of DRKHORSE
Dr. Assaf Yogev is a passionate innovator of human performance. He holds a PhD in Environmental & Exercise Physiology from the University of British Columbia and combines +20 years of global, elite racing experience with breakthrough biofeedback technologies, to challenge traditional training methodologies, and push the limits of human performance. Assaf is the co-founder of DRKHORSE Cycling in Vancouver, Canada and oversees all physiological assessments and testing at drkvienna.

Muscle oxygenation devices provide a non-invasive and continuous reading of oxygen movement within the muscle capillaries. The devices employed are wearable near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) sensors, which register coloration changes in your blood. Through this data, muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2 ) is estimated in real-time and—when measured under our scientifically validated testing protocol—determines the power and heartrate thresholds at which key metabolic transitions occur. Each test comes with a full report of your physiological strengths and limiters, power and heart-rate thresholds, as well as training recommendations.
Our goal is to help you get the most out of your training by better understanding your physiological capacities. There are no skin pricks as in lactate testing and the service offers precision guidance for your next interval workout or pacing strategy. Looking to increase power on the bike? Struggling with poor posture and discomfort? drkvienna offers regular strength programs specifically for cyclists at CrossFit Vienna. Led by Daniel, who is a certified CrossFit Trainer, these sessions are designed to raise the performance of cyclists — from beginner to elite — by improving participants’ raw strength, power-to-weight ratio, and biomechanics.

Cycling PerformanceÂ
Our one-on-one cycling performance coaching service provides co-created training plans to fit your ambitions and busy schedule. We work with both amateur athletes looking to establish effective training foundations as well as elites willing to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of speed. Our standard package includes individualized training plans with a weekly 30-minute consult. Additional services such as in-person technique sessions, mid-week communication, and personal strength training can be purchased separately.
